The second issue in 2006 assesses recent economic developments and short-term prospects in the euro area. It also presents a mid-year review of budgetary policies in the euro area and an assessment of business cycle synchronisation between euro-area Member States. The focus section of the report looks into the implications of the growing importance of services for the euro-area economy.
The Quarterly Report on the Euro Area is written by staff of the Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG ECFIN). It is intended to contribute to a better understanding of economic developments in the euro area and to improve the quality of the public debate surrounding the area's economic policy.
