26/11/2013 : Annual Research Conference 2013 - Forward to a New Normal: The redesign of EMU in a global perspective

The conference is hosted by Olli Rehn, the European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs and the Euro, and brings together leading figures from academia and economic policy-making circles, altogether forming an audience of about 80 invited participants.

This year's conference title "Forward to a New Normal: The redesign of EMU in a global perspective" clearly points to the challenges ahead. Indeed, while the worst of the crisis appears to be behind us with long-term solutions coming into sight, the fall-out continues to weigh heavily on growth and jobs, bringing severe hardship to many. Moreover, key advanced economies and emerging market and developing economies are facing a combination of old and new risks at the current juncture. Thus, we are far from "mission accomplished" and a return back to normal is neither possible nor desirable.

Against that backdrop, we are asking eminent scholars and top economic policy makers to explore reshaped economic policy frameworks and governance designs in a global context, including newly emerging set-ups in areas such as the architecture of financial systems and European convergence and integration mechanisms. Please note that the conference will be held under Chatham House rules and publication will only follow well after the event. Attendance on invitation only.
